At the beginning of October I found myself at Marlin Orchards. Marlin’s has been a part of the community for more than 50 years. Their annual pottery sale is fantastic! Potters from all over Eastern Ontario were there with their beautiful handcrafted wares. So many beautiful pieces to choose from it took a few tours around the greenhouse to take it all in. I however found myself coming back to one particular booth. The potter and artist was Ann Marlin. I had no way of knowing who’s pottery I had been drooling over until I got to the cash, and the artist herself was there and said “It looks like someone likes my pottery.” I had three pieces in my arms a simple cup, a beautiful tureen, and my French butter bell.
The simple cup sits on my desk holding my calligraphy pens. The tureen on my kitchen island. And the butter bell… it is used every day. These few items bring me such happiness, they are beautiful works of art the lines and form the colour and texture.
